Footwear Design Development Institute (FDDI)

Nestled within the verdant cityscape on the shores of Chembarambakkam lake, our institute design wholeheartedly embraces the surrounding natural beauty by creating a seamless gradation of spaces.

Given the unparalleled views and expansive vistas afforded by the site, it was only natural for us to respond to these unique qualities in our spatial planning. Our design philosophy revolves around the idea of harmonizing the building with the breathtaking surroundings.

To enhance visual connectivity and maintain a sense of openness, we introduced vertical layering of functions, punctuated with large atriums and cutouts across various floors. This architectural choice not only opens up the building but also engages its occupants by offering a series of captivating spatial experiences as they move through the structure. Our design aims to foster a strong connection with the environment and provide an enriching experience for all who inhabit the space.

Drawing inspiration from vernacular architecture, we adorned the façade with Gwalior stone and sandstone. These materials accentuate the building’s curtain walls, resulting in a captivating interplay of light and shadow, an intriguing blend of openness and privacy, and a harmonious balance between exposure and moments of respite across the entire space. This design philosophy breathes new life into a classic setting, making it not only visually engaging but also functionally appealing and inviting.
