Footwear Design Development Institute (FDDI)

When tasked with designing a footwear institute, our concept took shape around the structural elements of a shoe. We envisioned the sole of the shoe as the foundation for ground functions, the outsole as the inspiration for the rugged exterior, and the shank as the architectural bridges connecting the various sections, particularly the library.

This footwear-inspired design philosophy guided our approach towards key design features such as ventilation, form, and support. We translated these aspects into tangible elements like energy-efficient systems and the creation of flexible, open spaces that support the comfort and well-being of the occupants.

We acknowledged the site’s challenging topography, aiming to minimize any disruption to the natural surroundings. Our goal was to achieve a harmonious integration of the built form with the environment, preserving the site’s intrinsic beauty.

The resulting structure embodies a planning approach, where function-driven spaces are thoughtfully organized in an orthogonal configuration. These spaces are intelligently interspersed with intuitive circulation pathways, creating an environment that not only serves its purpose efficiently but also offers a pleasant and easy-to-navigate experience for its users.
