ITBP (INDO TIBETIAN BORDER POLICE) BORDER OUTPOST

The ITBP Border Outpost in Leh, Jammu & Kashmir, aims to provide a more comfortable living environment for soldiers who face extreme conditions daily. Located in an off-grid area with temperatures as low as -26°C, this NET ZERO facility tries to make their lives a bit easier.

Utilizing Solar Photovoltaic systems for power, the facility seeks a more sustainable route for energy needs. We’ve also incorporated an under-floor radiant heating system to try and ensure the soldiers stay warm, though we acknowledge it’s a small comfort given the challenges they face.

Storage spaces for insulated hot water tanks, electric boilers, and pumps aim to increase the outpost’s self-sufficiency. We’ve also added a 7-meter passage for fresh air intrusion for better ventilation, which is essential at high altitudes.

Solar Compound Parabolic Collectors were installed to capture solar energy more efficiently. While we’re proud of the technology used, we understand that it serves a modest role in supporting our soldiers, who make far greater sacrifices. In essence, the ITBP Border Outpost aims to be more than just a building; it’s an ongoing effort to offer soldiers a semblance of home and comfort while they serve in one of the most challenging terrains.
